NARUTO -ナルト-

Manga1999Finished

Overview

Naruto matters less as a single story than as a durable foundation. The serial that began in 1999 ran for 700 chapters across 72 collected volumes, and that length is part of its identity: it gave readers years of room to grow alongside a cast that starts as children and ends shaped by war, loss, and responsibility. For many readers it was the series that turned weekly manga into a habit, and its ninja framing and escalating power system became a shared reference point well beyond its own pages.

The experience is long-form coming of age set inside an action adventure. Missions, rivalries, and supernatural combat supply the momentum, but the emotional engine is a lonely protagonist chasing acknowledgment and slowly assembling something like a family. The themes attached to the work, revenge, tragedy, philosophy, found family, and war, mean the tone shifts as the cast ages, so the early chapters and the later ones ask quite different things of a reader. It rewards patience more than speed.

Readers who enjoy ensemble casts, training arcs, and mythologies that expand over hundreds of chapters will find plenty to occupy them, and the series remains widely available through major digital manga services. Because the story grows darker and more politically weighted as it proceeds, younger readers may do better starting with the earlier arcs or with an adult nearby. Anyone wanting a short, self-contained tale should look elsewhere; this is a commitment, and the commitment is the point.

Synopsis

Naruto Uzumaki is a restless young ninja growing up in the Hidden Leaf Village, shunned by neighbors who remember the disaster that struck the day he was born. Unaware of why he is treated as an outcast, he hides his loneliness behind reckless bravado and a single loud ambition: to become Hokage, the village's strongest leader, so that everyone will finally acknowledge him. What he does not yet know is that a powerful nine-tailed fox spirit was sealed inside him as an infant, a secret that shapes both his isolation and his unusual strength.

After barely passing his ninja academy graduation, Naruto is grouped into Team 7 alongside Sasuke Uchiha, a gifted and aloof prodigy driven by a private hunger for vengeance, and Sakura Haruno, a sharp-minded classmate determined to prove her own worth. Their teacher, the easygoing but formidable Kakashi Hatake, pushes the three toward the hard truth that teamwork matters more than individual talent. Early missions take them beyond the village walls, where their differing strengths and clashing personalities are tested against enemies far more dangerous than any training exercise.

The story's central conflict grows from the bonds and rivalries inside that team. Naruto wants to protect the people who have begun to accept him, while Sasuke chases power by any means necessary, and the two boys' choices pull them onto diverging paths. Around them loom larger threats: rival ninja nations, criminal organizations, and old grudges that reach back through generations of shinobi history. Naruto's answer to nearly every obstacle is the same stubborn refusal to give up on others, even when they have given up on themselves.

Why It Connects With Audiences

Why people love it

  • The emotional core is Naruto's loneliness and search for acknowledgment, with found family growing around Team 7.
  • The ninja world and power system expand over hundreds of chapters, rewarding patient readers with a durable shared reference point.
  • Its long run lets the cast age and change, while themes of revenge, tragedy, philosophy, and war gain weight over time.

Common criticisms

  • A frequent point of discussion is the sheer length; 700 chapters can feel daunting and demanding for new readers.
  • Some readers find the later tone and escalating power scale move away from the early, mission-focused chapters.
  • Continuity and ensemble focus can make certain arcs feel stretched or harder to follow for those joining mid-run.

Franchise Context

This entry sits within the Naruto franchise, a property whose official hub brings together comics, anime, games, goods, and events. In the saved record, the Naruto manga is listed as the main installment and as the primary experience, with 700 chapters across 72 volumes. That placement makes this page an individual work record tied to the larger franchise rather than a summary of the whole property.

As the foundational Naruto narrative, it functions as the beginning of the franchise rather than a continuation, spin-off, or alternate version. Later branches, including the Shippuden-era material and Boruto entries referenced in the official site navigation, extend the world in different media and formats. The anime adaptation belongs to the same franchise lineage, but this record keeps its focus on the main manga installment identified in the dataset.

The franchise hub provides the broader frame. This entry should be read as one component among manga, anime, games, and related goods, not as the entirety of Naruto. Its main_manga relationship establishes it as the anchor installment, while the hub connects it to subsequent and adjacent works.

Where This Fits in NARUTO

A spoiler-light guide to where this exact work fits within the broader NARUTO franchise.

  1. Step 1
Start with the main manga run catalogued on this page, listed as the main_manga installment at 700 chapters across 72 volumes. It is the primary experience and the natural entry point.
  2. Step 2
Nothing needs to be read or watched before it. No earlier installment is recorded alongside this one, so begin at chapter one rather than jumping to an adaptation or a later arc.
  3. Step 3
Treat the animated version as an alternate route through the same material, not as a required prequel or a separate follow-up. Choose the format that suits you after checking availability.
  4. Step 4
After finishing this core run, continue through the parent franchise hub for the follow-on series and side stories. This page covers only the core work, not the entire franchise.

Franchise Path

  1. Begin with the Naruto manga main run (700 chapters, 72 volumes), the primary experience for this entry.
  2. Anime route: Naruto TV covers the early story, then Naruto: Shippuden continues the adaptation.
  3. After the original storyline, move to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations for the next-generation sequel.
  4. The official Naruto hub links manga, anime, games, and side stories within the same franchise.

After You Finish

Continue with

  • After the core Naruto manga, continue to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations for the next generation.
  • If watching the anime, continue from Naruto into Naruto: Shippuden for later story arcs.
  • No prequel is required; the main Naruto run is the natural starting point.
  • Side stories and related media can be explored through the official hub after the main story.
