Overview
Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS gives the card-battle anime a playful reset, pairing futuristic ideas with a faster, more flexible style of dueling. Its emphasis on invention, experimentation, and the excitement of trying something new makes the series feel energetic rather than rule-bound.
Bright school-life comedy, a primarily child cast, and a strong focus on friendship make this an approachable entry for younger viewers and newcomers to the anime. Fans of imaginative action, technology, and competitive card games can also enjoy its upbeat rhythm and deliberately eccentric personality.
Synopsis
In the futuristic town of Goha, fifth-grade inventor and Duel Monsters player Yuga Oudou finds the established rules of dueling too rigid and predictable. Determined to open up new possibilities, he creates Rush Duels, a faster format designed to make each match more exciting and accessible.
Yuga’s invention draws the attention of fellow student Tatsuhisa Kamijou and leads them to a mysterious place where the potential of Rush Duels may be revealed. Joined by friends and fellow duelists, Yuga works to establish his new system while facing opponents and institutions invested in the existing way of playing.

Production Background
Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS is an original television anime animated by Bridge. Its production is credited to Studio Dice, Shueisha, TV Tokyo, and KONAMI. The series was created as the sixth spin-off anime in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise and marked the 20th anniversary of the Duel Monsters anime.
TV Tokyo broadcast the series in Japan from April 4, 2020, through March 27, 2022. The completed production contains 92 episodes, and the official site later announced a rerun beginning in 2023. As an original anime, it is not identified as an adaptation of manga or other source material.
Franchise Context
Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS is an original television anime in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, rather than an adaptation of a manga or another source. It is the franchise’s sixth spin-off anime series, following Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, and was made as a distinct entry centered on a new cast and the futuristic town of Goha. Its story introduces Rush Duels, a new approach to Duel Monsters created by the young inventor Yuga Ohdo, giving this installment its own rules and identity within the wider card-game setting.
This series is not the beginning of the overall Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, nor is it a continuation of the preceding anime’s storyline as presented in the supplied record. It functions as a standalone original anime entry within the broader franchise, with its 92-episode television run concluding in March 2022. The next television installment was Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!, which premiered in April 2022 and followed SEVENS in the franchise’s anime release order. SEVENS therefore works as a self-contained starting point for its own cast and Rush Duel format while remaining part of the larger Yu-Gi-Oh! anime lineage.
Where This Fits in Yu-Gi-Oh!
A spoiler-light guide to where this exact work fits within the broader Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.
-
Step 1
Start with Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS itself. As a spin-off series, it does not require a previous Yu-Gi-Oh! anime to establish its starting point.
-
Step 2
For release-order context, watch Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS before SEVENS, since SEVENS follows it in the franchise’s anime lineup. This is optional rather than required preparation.
-
Step 3
After completing all 92 episodes of SEVENS, continue with Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!, the anime that follows it.
Franchise Path
- Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS precedes SEVENS in the anime release order; no story continuity is required.
- SEVENS introduces Yuga, Goha, and the Rush Duel format as a distinct franchise entry.

- Continue with Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!!, the next anime installment after SEVENS.
