Overview

JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie matters as a focused look at the friendship and tragedy behind two of the series’ most important sorcerers. Its compact theatrical format gives this emotionally heavy chapter a clear, concentrated shape, with new school-memory footage and an acoustic musical touch adding to its sense of remembrance.

The experience blends supernatural action, youthful camaraderie, and the pressure of an impossible duty, gradually turning a high-school bond into something far more painful. It is most approachable for viewers familiar with Jujutsu Kaisen, while fans of character-driven action, tragic friendships, and modern exorcist stories may also find its standalone emotional focus rewarding.

Synopsis

Before they became adversaries, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were high school classmates and close friends, as well as two exceptionally powerful jujutsu sorcerers. Their latest assignment is to escort Riko Amanai, a student chosen as the Star Plasma Vessel, while she prepares to fulfill a dangerous duty.

The mission places the trio in the sights of a religious cult and other curse users, forcing Gojo and Geto to confront threats few sorcerers could handle. As they protect Riko and navigate the demands of their task, their friendship and beliefs are tested by a conflict that will shape their futures.

Production Background

JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie is an anime feature based on Gege Akutami’s manga. It was produced as a recompilation of the Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc from the second television season, re-editing its first five episodes into a single film.

The 2025 release has a 111-minute runtime and includes new footage offering glimpses of the characters’ school memories. Its music also features an acoustic version of Tatsuya Kitani’s “Ao no Sumika” (Where Our Blue Is). The film is listed as available through Crunchyroll.

Franchise Context

JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie is a theatrical compilation within the Jujutsu Kaisen anime franchise, rather than the beginning of a separate series or a standalone original story. It re-edits episodes 1 through 5 of the second television season's Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc, adapting material from Gege Akutami's manga. The film therefore presents an existing anime storyline in movie format while retaining its place as part of the broader television continuity.

Its focus is the high-school period of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, when the two sorcerers were classmates and friends before their eventual opposition. This makes the film an earlier-period story centered on their shared mission and the events that shape their futures, rather than a continuation of Yuji Itadori's central storyline. Alongside the re-edited season material, the movie includes new footage offering glimpses of the characters' school memories, accompanied by an acoustic version of “Ao no Sumika” by Tatsuya Kitani. It is best understood as a condensed theatrical version of a major anime arc, not as a remake or a new franchise entry.

Where This Fits in Jujutsu Kaisen

A spoiler-light guide to where this exact work fits within the broader Jujutsu Kaisen franchise.

  1. Step 1
For the main franchise route, begin with the Jujutsu Kaisen television anime rather than treating this movie as the complete series.
  2. Step 2
Place this film at the opening of the television anime's second season: it is an alternate compilation of that season's Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc, with added footage.
  3. Step 3
If you have already watched those five second-season episodes, this movie is optional; otherwise, use it as a condensed alternative before continuing with the rest of the television anime.

Franchise Path

  1. Jujutsu Kaisen (TV series) — watch the main anime route; this film condenses the opening arc of Season 2 with added footage.
