Overview
This 2023 television series takes one of the franchise's loudest supporting players and hands her a full twelve-episode spotlight. Rather than following the ensemble's chaotic party dynamics, it stays close to Megumin, the self-proclaimed greatest genius of the Crimson Magic Clan, as she throws herself at a single impossible goal: mastering the Explosion spell that once saved her life. The work matters because it proves the property can expand sideways, letting a favorite character carry a complete story built on devotion to one very impractical kind of magic.
The experience is bright, fast, and deliberately silly, leaning on slapstick, parody, and the earnest melodrama of a teenager who takes herself enormously seriously. Comedy and fantasy adventure share screen time with quieter beats about study, rivalry, and friendship, and the arrival of a black kitten tied to a Dark God pushes the stakes beyond simple schoolroom competition. Viewers fond of chuunibyou humor, magic academies, and mostly teen casts will find the tone familiar and welcoming.
Approachability is a genuine strength. The run is finished, twelve episodes of roughly twenty-four minutes each, and an English dub sits alongside streaming options that include Crunchyroll, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Bilibili TV, YouTube, and iQ. Newcomers can begin with this individual work without much preparation, while returning viewers get extra mileage from the in-jokes. Anyone who prefers a focused character study to a sprawling team comedy should feel at home.
Synopsis
KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World! centers on Megumin, celebrated as the Greatest Genius of the Crimson Magic Clan, and her single-minded pursuit of one spell: Explosion. Having once been saved by a mysterious caster of that devastating magic, she dedicates her studies and training to mastering it herself. Her days are filled with family life in her home village, lessons in magic, and the rivalries and friendships that come with being a young, fiercely confident mage.
Events take an unexpected turn when Megumin's little sister finds a black kitten in the woods. The animal turns out to be far more than a stray, becoming linked to the awakening of a Dark God and pulling Megumin into supernatural trouble well beyond ordinary practice. She must juggle her ambitions, comedic mishaps, and mounting complications as she pushes toward the power she has always wanted.
Across its twelve episodes, the series follows one young wizard's origins within the broader KONOSUBA world, blending fantasy adventure, slapstick comedy, and a cast of eccentric characters around its heroine's explosive obsession.

Franchise Context
KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World! is a spin-off of the KonoSuba franchise rather than a continuation of the main storyline. Where the flagship series follows Kazuma Sato and his party, this 2023 television anime turns to Megumin, the Crimson Magic Clan wizard, and her single-minded devotion to Explosion magic. It draws on the same light novel source material written by Natsume Akatsuki with illustrations by Kurone Mishima, and it stands as a distinct entry inside the larger property, not a remake or an alternate retelling of events already animated.
Because it is a side story, the series can be approached on its own, though viewers familiar with the main KonoSuba anime will recognize the world, the humor, and the character dynamics it shares. Its twelve episodes, credited to the KonoSuba Explosion production committee, aired in 2023 and are offered with an English dub across several streaming services. Within the franchise hub, this page covers only this individual work, while the broader hub gathers the related novels, manga, and other anime installments.
