Synopsis

For more than two thousand years, the people of the Moon have lived in lunar settlements, waiting for the day they could return to the homeworld their ancestors left behind. That long wait finally ends when the Dianna Counter, the return fleet of the Moonrace, sets out for Earth with the intent of reclaiming it. Their arrival is not a simple homecoming, however, because the planet they mean to settle has been inhabited for generations by people who know nothing of the Moonrace or their claim.

Among those sent ahead is Loran Cehack, a young Moonrace scout who descended to Earth two years before the main return begins and has been living quietly among its inhabitants. On the night of his coming-of-age ceremony, he encounters a remarkable machine known as the Turn A Gundam, a discovery that pulls him into the gathering confrontation between the two worlds. Having made a life among Earth's people while still belonging to the Moon, Loran finds himself standing at the center of a conflict he never expected to join.

The novel follows the widening friction between the returning Moonrace and Earth's residents, and the difficult position of a young man whose loyalties are divided between the world that raised him and the world he has come to know. This two-volume prose retelling presents the opening movements of that struggle from Loran's perspective.

Should You Read It?

Read it if you enjoy

  • Read if you want a prose expansion of Turn A Gundam's opening, centered on Loran Cehack's coming-of-age and first encounter with the Turn A.
  • Read for a Moonrace-return story that balances Earth settlement, Dianna Counter politics, and the human cost of a divided homeworld.
  • Pick it up if you enjoy mecha science fiction driven by character perspective rather than only battlefield spectacle.

It may not suit you if

  • May not suit readers who need an official English edition; the record verifies no current English release or streaming version.
  • May not suit those seeking a direct anime or manga adaptation; the catalog lists its source material as Other.
  • May not suit readers who prefer long-running franchise commitments, as this is a finished two-volume novel with a narrow 2007 release window.

Why It Connects With Audiences

Why people love it

  • The premise gives Loran a poignant split loyalty: raised on Earth while still Moonrace, he stands between two worlds as the return begins.
  • The Moonrace's two-thousand-year wait and the Dianna Counter's arrival offer a grand science-fiction backdrop for intimate coming-of-age drama.
  • The Turn A Gundam encounter is framed as a personal turning point, tying mecha discovery to Loran's ceremony and the larger conflict.

Common criticisms

  • Availability is a likely hurdle: no current official English edition has been verified, limiting access for many readers.
  • At two volumes, the story may feel compressed to some readers relative to the scale of the Moonrace return and Earth conflict.
  • Because it is catalogued as source Other rather than a direct adaptation, continuity-focused fans may be unsure how it fits established versions.

Production Background

Turn ∀ Gundam: Tsuki ni Mayu - Chi ni wa Kajitsu is a two volume Japanese publication catalogued under the Turn A Gundam franchise and issued in novel format. The catalog classifies it as a light novel release presented within the manga group of entries, and its publication window is narrow: the first volume carries a start date of October 9, 2007, and the second closes the run on December 3, 2007. The work reached its finished status within that same year, with no further volumes added afterward.

The record lists its source material as Other, which places the book outside the usual pattern of a direct adaptation of an existing manga or anime broadcast. Its narrative instead returns to the opening situation of the Turn A setting, following Loran Cehack two years after his descent from the Moon to Earth. It covers his coming of age ceremony and his first encounter with the Turn A Gundam, set against the Moonrace return to Earth carried out under the Dianna Counter and the two thousand years of waiting that preceded it.

Distribution details beyond the original Japanese release are limited. No current official English edition has been verified, and the record notes no streaming availability, which is expected for a prose publication of this length. Its placement alongside the broader Turn A Gundam body of works makes it a companion piece for readers following the franchise in print, while its two volume scope keeps the focus on one segment of the larger story.

Franchise Path

  1. Turn A Gundam (1999 TV series) → Turn ∀ Gundam: Tsuki ni Mayu – Chi ni wa Kajitsu (2007 novel) as an early-events prose retelling.
  2. Standalone within Turn A: the story is complete in its two-volume novel set.
