Overview
This single-episode OVA is a compact prologue tied to the One Piece Film: Strong World storyline, yet it stands on its own as a brief historical vignette. It matters because it dramatizes a slice of the Roger era that the main series usually only hints at, centering on the confrontation between Gold Roger and Shiki while other world events unfold around the Pirate King's execution.
In just eighteen minutes, the work offers a concentrated burst of action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy. Its short runtime makes it feel like a lost chapter or an atmospheric aside, prioritizing key historical moments and pirate-world intrigue over a full character arc.
Because it assumes some familiarity with One Piece, this OVA is most approachable for viewers who already know the broader world and want to see its past fleshed out. Absolute newcomers can still enjoy the swift action and fantasy elements, but they may miss the significance of the figures on screen.

Should You Watch It?
Watch it if you enjoy
- For One Piece viewers who want a short look at the Roger era, especially the Gold Roger and Shiki confrontation.
- For those who watched One Piece Film: Strong World and want a compact historical prologue.
- For fans who enjoy pirate-world lore and quick action-adventure vignettes over full character arcs.
It may not suit you if
- May not suit absolute newcomers, since its significance depends on familiarity with One Piece figures and world events.
- May disappoint viewers seeking a complete character arc rather than an 18-minute historical aside.
- May feel too brief for those who prefer longer OVAs or full episodes.
The primary starting work is a single OVA, so watching it in full is the natural Volluble Test Drive.
Why It Connects With Audiences
Why people love it
- It dramatizes a rarely shown slice of the Roger era, centering on the clash between Gold Roger and Shiki.
- Its 18-minute runtime delivers a concentrated mix of action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy.
- It can work as an atmospheric lost chapter that adds context to the Strong World storyline.
Common criticisms
- Its very short length can make the story feel more like a prologue or side chapter than a full narrative.
- Newcomers may miss the importance of several figures and events without prior One Piece knowledge.
- Because it prioritizes historical moments and pirate-world intrigue, character development can feel limited.
