Synopsis

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind follows Giorno Giovanna, a young man living in Naples who carries the blood of DIO and dreams of reshaping the city's criminal underworld from the inside. Rather than merely surviving the streets, he sets his sights on rising through the ranks of the gang Passione and becoming what its members call a Gang-Star, with the goal of driving the drug trade out of his city. That ambition places him on a collision course with the unseen figure who rules Passione from the top.

Giorno is drawn into the orbit of Bruno Bucciarati, a capo whose personal code of honor sets him apart from his peers, and joins Bucciarati's squad alongside Leone Abbacchio, Guido Mista, Narancia Ghirga, and Pannacotta Fugo. Each of them commands a Stand, a supernatural manifestation of the user's fighting spirit, and their work exposes the brutal hierarchy they serve. The squad's assignment to protect Trish Una, the daughter of Passione's Boss, pulls them deeper into the organization's secrets than any of them anticipated, and the members' loyalties are tested in ways that force each of them to decide what justice means to them.

What follows is a pursuit across Italy as Giorno and his companions chase clues about the Boss's true identity while the organization's deadliest operatives close in around them. The series pairs its escalating confrontations with questions of fate, sacrifice, and whether an institution rotten at its core can ever be rebuilt. It stands as a self-contained chapter with its own setting and cast within the larger JoJo saga.

Production Background

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind is the fourth season of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime television series, produced by David Production. The adaptation brings Hirohiko Araki's Golden Wind, the fifth part of his JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga, to television as a 39-episode run. The project was personally announced by Araki at the "Ripples of Adventure" art exhibition on June 21, 2018, ahead of its broadcast debut.

The season opened in the fall 2018 broadcast period, with each episode running about 24 minutes. Its run began on October 6, 2018 and finished on July 28, 2019. Production rights are credited to Lucky Land Communications, Shueisha, and the Golden Wind production committee.

Golden Wind was adapted from manga source material, and an English dub was produced for the series. The finished work became available to viewers through a broad range of outlets, including Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Tubi TV, YouTube, Hoopla, and Adult Swim.

Franchise Context

Within the broader JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, Golden Wind is a mainline anime television installment rather than a spin-off or stand-alone side story. It serves as the fourth season of David Production's anime series and adapts the fifth part of Hirohiko Araki's original manga, making it both a continuation of the animated adaptation and the next major story arc after Diamond is Unbreakable.

The season moves the franchise to Italy and introduces Giorno Giovanna as its central figure. Although he is connected to earlier JoJo lore through his parentage, the story largely follows a new cast and a different setting. This allows Golden Wind to function as an accessible entry point while still occupying a clear place in the franchise's ongoing chronology.

For viewers following the anime in order, it comes after Diamond is Unbreakable and before later adaptations. The 2018 television run covers the complete Golden Wind manga arc across 39 episodes, so it is a finished adaptation of a single major part rather than an original continuation or alternate retelling.

Where This Fits in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

A spoiler-light guide to where this exact work fits within the broader JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise.

  1. Step 1
Start with the franchise's first animated season, which covers Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. This work is the fifth part of the manga and the fourth anime season, so it continues an established storyline rather than opening one.
  2. Step 2
Move through Stardust Crusaders before reaching this season, because the legacy of DIO, the antagonist established in the earlier parts, is central to protagonist Giorno Giovanna.
  3. Step 3
Finish Diamond is Unbreakable first. This season is set roughly two years after that part's events and shifts to a new cast and setting in Italy, so it lands best once the prior part is complete.
  4. Step 4
Treat this season as a mainline installment, not an optional side story or alternate retelling. Watch it in the franchise's own order, then carry on to the part that follows.

Franchise Path

  1. Start with Season 1 (Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency) and Stardust Crusaders so DIO's legacy lands before Golden Wind.
  2. Watch Diamond is Unbreakable first; Golden Wind is the fourth anime season and Part 5, shifting to Italy with a new cast.
  3. Treat this as a mainline JoJo installment and the complete adaptation of the Golden Wind arc, not a side story or alternate retelling.

After You Finish

Continue with

  • Golden Wind is a finished 39-episode adaptation of Part 5, so continue with later mainline JoJo parts for the next franchise story.
  • No Golden Wind-only sequel is required; this season resolves its own arc and cast journey.
