Overview
Overlord is a multimedia franchise represented in Volluble by 20 connected works across 7 media categories. This hub organizes the franchise by release chronology and gives newcomers a clear starting point.
Synopsis
Overlord begins in the twilight of the DMMO-RPG Yggdrasil. Momonga, a devoted guild leader, stays online as the servers shut down—and finds himself trapped in his skeletal avatar, now called Ainz Ooal Gown. The tomb-fortress Nazarick and its NPC guardians have become flesh, loyal to him beyond programmed devotion. Stranded in a living fantasy world, Ainz decides to learn its rules, protect his new family, and test whether any former players remain, all while concealing his ordinary human uncertainties behind an aura of absolute authority.
As Ainz and the Floor Guardians step beyond Nazarick, they encounter kingdoms, adventurer guilds, religious powers, and monstrous threats. Ainz often acts through proxies and carefully staged displays of strength, pursuing a grand plan whose true aim remains opaque even to his followers. The story balances dark fantasy conquest, political maneuvering, and grim comedy as his overwhelming power reshapes alliances and rivalries.
The franchise expands from Kugane Maruyama's light novels into manga, multiple anime seasons, recap and original films such as The Sacred Kingdom, and the playful Ple Ple Pleiades shorts and gag spin-offs, broadening Nazarick's world while keeping Ainz at its center.
