Synopsis

Fire Force Season 2 continues the story of Shinra Kusakabe, a young firefighter with the power to ignite his feet, as he serves with Special Fire Force Company 8. After the events of the first season, Shinra and his teammates understand more about the Evangelist, a shadowy organization that seeks to collect Adolla Bursts from people like Shinra and his brother Shou. Determined to learn the truth about his mother and to reach Shou again, Shinra throws himself into the unit’s dangerous missions against spontaneous human combustion and the threats behind them.

The season expands the cast and the scope of the conflict. Company 8 works alongside other Fire Force brigades, and their investigations draw them deeper into a conspiracy involving cults, demons, and the manipulation of fire itself. Captain Burns provides Shinra with painful details from his past, pushing Shinra to question what he has been told. A mysterious girl called the First Pillar enters the picture, and her revelations point to a catastrophic plan that could reshape the world.

At its core, this season follows Shinra’s struggle to protect the people around him while confronting an enemy that operates from the shadows. The primary conflict pits Company 8 and their allies against the Evangelist’s designs, with the fate of Tokyo and perhaps humanity hanging in the balance. The series mixes intense action with emotional questions about family, faith, and sacrifice, building toward confrontations that test the resolve of every firefighter involved.

Production Background

Fire Force Season 2 is a television anime adaptation of the manga by Atsushi Ohkubo, produced by David Production, the studio that also handled the first season. Its production was announced after the finale of that earlier season had aired, and the season was broadcast under the Japanese title Enen no Shouboutai Ni no Shou. It ran for 24 episodes, opening on July 4, 2020 and concluding on December 12, 2020, with each episode running about 24 minutes. The second season continues to draw its story material from Ohkubo's manga.

The season brought a change in creative leadership. Tatsuma Minamikawa directed the episodes and handled the writing, taking over those roles from Yuki Yase and Yamato Haishima, who had held the director and writer positions on the previous season. The show aired on the Animeism programming block, carried by MBS, TBS, BS-TBS and several other JNN affiliates across Japan.

Four theme songs accompanied the broadcast. Aimer performed the first opening, Spark-Again, with Cider Girl providing the first ending, ID. Kana-Boon handled the second opening, Torch of Liberty, while Pelican Fanclub performed the second ending, Desire. Beyond Japan, the season received an English-language release that included an English dub, and it became available through Crunchyroll, Adult Swim, Netflix and Hulu.

Franchise Context

Fire Force Season 2 is the second television anime season in the Fire Force franchise, continuing the story adapted from Atsushi Ohkubo's manga. It is a direct continuation of the first season rather than a standalone entry, a spin-off, or an alternate retelling. The season was announced after the first season finale and produced by David Production, the studio behind the earlier anime. Its placement in the franchise makes it a middle chapter between the initial anime season and the later announced third season.

The season adapts events from the ongoing manga and aired in 2020 as part of the Animeism programming block. Tatsuma Minamikawa took over as director and series writer, replacing Yuki Yase and Yamato Haishima from the first season. Returning for 24 episodes, it maintains the franchise's established continuity while introducing staff changes. The franchise also includes the original manga, home media releases, and related merchandise or game collaborations. Season 2 is therefore best understood as a numbered sequel within the main animated timeline, not as a reboot or isolated work.

Where This Fits in Fire Force

A spoiler-light guide to where this exact work fits within the broader Fire Force franchise.

Exact position: This is Season 2 and main anime entry 2 of 4. It follows Fire Force.

  1. Step 1
Start with Fire Force Season 1, because this second season opens with Company 8 already deep into the Evangelist investigation and assumes the earlier character reveals and world setup are known.
  2. Step 2
Move on to this season as the direct main-line continuation of the television anime, not a recap, side story, or alternate retelling, so it is best watched in sequence rather than skipped.
  3. Step 3
Treat the manga by Atsushi Ohkubo as the source text: read it either before the anime for the fullest picture or continue from the corresponding point afterward if you want the story beyond what the seasons cover.
  4. Step 4
Continue with the announced third season after finishing here, since it carries the same storyline forward and should not be approached before this season.

Franchise Path

  1. Fire Force
  2. Fire Force Season 2 (current)
  3. Fire Force Season 3
