Synopsis

Girls und Panzer follows Miho Nishizumi, a high-school girl who transfers to Ooarai Girls' High School hoping to leave behind her family's demanding tankery legacy. Tankery is a martial sport in which all-girl teams command restored World War II tanks in carefully refereed matches. When Ooarai's student council revives its disbanded tankery club to compete in the national tournament—and to draw attention that could keep the school open—Miho is pulled back into the very activity she tried to avoid. She becomes part of an unlikely crew of classmates, each with her own strengths and anxieties, and learns to trust teammates rather than carry every burden alone.

The central conflict is both competitive and personal: Ooarai must outmaneuver larger, more experienced schools while Miho reconciles her fear of command with her instinct for protecting others. Matches mix tactical tank duels, school-pride rivalries, and comedy, with opponents from schools modeled on different national styles.

Across the TV series, OVAs, films, and the multi-part das Finale, the franchise broadens beyond Ooarai to rival commanders and side teams, while spin-offs and anthologies explore other schools and everyday tankery life. The tone stays playful and sports-driven, balancing energetic battles with friendship and teamwork.
