Synopsis
Set a year and a half after the events of the original series, Psycho-Pass 2 returns to a Japanese society governed by the Sibyl System, a network that scans every citizen's mental state through ubiquitous cymatic sensors. The resulting Psycho-Pass determines a person's hue, and anyone whose Crime Coefficient climbs too high is branded a latent criminal. The Public Safety Bureau's Criminal Investigation Division enforces this order with Dominators, weapons that only fire when a target's readings justify lethal force.
Akane Tsunemori, now a veteran Inspector, has learned the truth about what Sibyl actually is and has chosen to work within the law anyway, placing her faith in human judgment and legal order. She leads a reorganized division that includes both new and returning colleagues, among them a young inspector whose rigid idealism clashes with Akane's hard-won pragmatism and an Enforcer whose history complicates their partnership.
Their routine enforcement is disrupted by a case that does not fit the system's rules. A figure able to slip past the scanners and elude a Dominator's judgment emerges, and each crime scene pulls the division deeper into a confrontation that tests whether the Sibyl System can be questioned at all.

Franchise Context
PSYCHO-PASS 2 is the 2014 television continuation of the Psycho-Pass anime franchise, not a stand-alone work or a manga adaptation. It follows the 2012 Psycho-Pass TV series as a direct sequel and effectively serves as the second television season. An original anime production, it was animated by Tatsunoko Production and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and Kiyotaka Suzuki. Its 11-episode run places it after the original series in the franchise timeline, making it a bridge to later installments.
Within the larger franchise, this entry is a mainline anime chapter rather than a spin-off, alternate retelling, or reboot. It continues the setting and institutions established in the first season while changing some creative duties: Tow Ubukata handled series composition, with scripts by Ubukata and Jun Kumagai, and Katsuyuki Motohiro and Gen Urobuchi served as supervisors. Akira Amano's character designs were adapted by Kyoji Asano, preserving visual continuity with the earlier anime.
Because PSYCHO-PASS 2 is a direct sequel, it assumes familiarity with the first season and sits alongside the franchise's films and later seasons as part of the numbered mainline storyline. This page covers only PSYCHO-PASS 2 itself, not the entire franchise.
