Overview
Bleach is a multimedia franchise represented in Volluble by 31 connected works across 6 media categories. This hub organizes the franchise by release chronology and gives newcomers a clear starting point.
Synopsis
Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki, a hotheaded teenager with the ability to see spirits. After a violent encounter with a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki, he gains her powers and becomes a Substitute Soul Reaper, tasked with protecting the living from malevolent spirits called Hollows and guiding departed souls to the Soul Society. What begins as a monster-of-the-week supernatural action series expands into a large ensemble saga involving Soul Reapers, spiritual realms, rival factions, and conspiracies that stretch across centuries.
The manga, created by Tite Kubo, launched in 2001 and ran for 15 years. Its anime adaptation began in 2004 and brought the battles, swordsmanship, and stylized cast to a wider audience. As the story progresses, Ichigo and his friends—including Orihime, Chad, Uryu, and the Soul Reapers—face escalating threats that test loyalty, identity, and the balance between worlds. The franchise broadens through films, novels, OVAs, spin-offs, and the Thousand-Year Blood War anime, which adapts the final arc and continues into new chapters. Across its many forms, Bleach remains defined by kinetic action, gothic supernatural style, and Ichigo's journey from reluctant protector to a hero entangled in cosmic war.
