Synopsis
Noragami Aragoto follows Yato, a minor god with no shrine of his own, almost no worshippers, and a willingness to take on any request for the price of five yen. He is assisted by his Regalia, Yukine, a spirit who transforms into a sword, and by Hiyori Iki, a high school student whose soul slips loose from her body after she pulls Yato out of the path of oncoming traffic. Hiyori wants nothing more than to return to an ordinary life, yet her connection to the far shore keeps drawing her back into the dealings of gods and spirits.
The central conflict comes from Bishamon, a formidable war god who blames Yato for the death of a Regalia she once held dear. She pursues him with open hostility, and Yato finds that his usual evasions and cheap tricks cannot settle a grudge carried by one of the strongest deities in the heavens. Facing her means confronting a chapter of his own past that he has long preferred to leave untouched.
Yato must also decide how far he is willing to go for Hiyori, since every route toward restoring her seems to carry the risk of losing her entirely. Yukine's development as a Regalia, the internal workings of Bishamon's household, and unseen forces maneuvering in the background all add pressure. It is a struggle that his poverty and low standing have done little to prepare him for.
Opening
Should You Watch It?
Watch it if you enjoy
- Viewers who liked the first Noragami season and want the next animated chapter of Yato, Hiyori, and Yukine's story.
- Fans of urban fantasy, mythology, and action-comedy centered on gods, regalia, and found-family bonds.
- Those drawn to Bishamon's grudge against Yato and the wider heavenly power struggle.
It may not suit you if
- Newcomers may struggle, since this is a direct continuation rather than a standalone entry or remake.
- Viewers wanting a fully self-contained ending may note that it adapts an ongoing arc from the source manga.
- The catalog lists Nudity among its themes, so viewers may wish to check content details before starting.
This automatic starting point balances the series length, pacing, time commitment, and available Volluble research data. Editors can override it when firsthand knowledge suggests a better entry point.
Why It Connects With Audiences
Why people love it
- Yato's scruffy minor-god persona and his bonds with Yukine and Hiyori give the supernatural action an emotional center.
- The Bishamon conflict expands the world of gods and regalia beyond the first season's personal stakes.
- Adachitoka's manga supplies a foundation of urban fantasy, comedy, and mythology that the adaptation draws from.
Common criticisms
- Because it continues directly from the previous anime, it is not an ideal starting point for new viewers.
- Adapting an ongoing manga arc can leave some story threads open rather than fully resolved.
- The revenge-focused Bishamon storyline may feel heavier than the series' lighter comedy moments.

Production Background
Noragami Aragoto is a 2015 television anime series made up of 13 episodes, each with a runtime of roughly 24 minutes. It draws its material from the manga Noragami: Stray God, written and illustrated by the artist duo Adachitoka. That manga was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine starting in December 2010 and ran until January 2024, with its chapters collected into 27 tankobon volumes. Kodansha USA handles the English-language release of the manga in North America, and the anime adaptation carries the Manga source designation in its catalog record.
The production was promoted through its official Japanese website at noragami-anime.net. Catalog databases index the title under AniList ID 21128 and MyAnimeList ID 30503, where it is logged as a finished TV production. Its release is set in 2015, and the series reached English-speaking viewers through a dub as well as streaming placements on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Crunchyroll.
The episodes adapt an ongoing arc from the source manga, centering on the conflict between the minor god Yato and Bishamon, one of the deadliest war gods, who holds him responsible for the death of a past regalia. The adaptation's genre positioning covers action, adventure, comedy, and supernatural territory, with themes such as mythology, swordplay, found family, and revenge shaping how the arc was presented on screen.
Franchise Context
Noragami Aragoto is a later television anime installment in the Noragami franchise, continuing the story told in the earlier twelve-episode adaptation of Adachitoka's manga. Where that first series introduced Yato, Hiyori Iki, and the bond between gods and their regalia, this entry carries the same continuity forward instead of restarting it. It is neither a remake nor a reboot, and it is not a side story detached from the main line.
The franchise itself began as a manga written and illustrated by the duo Adachitoka, serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from December 2010 to January 2024, with its chapters collected into 27 tankobon volumes. Because this anime draws on that source material, it stands as an adaptation of the manga rather than an alternate version of it, and the two forms tell the same core narrative in different media.
Within the broader franchise, Noragami Aragoto holds the continuation position: a direct follow-up season for viewers moving through the animated order. Other entries exist across the franchise, but this page addresses only this individual installment and its place in that larger whole.
