Overview
Pokémon the Series: XY is a polished individual chapter of the long-running Pokémon anime, pairing the familiar journey format with the Kalos region’s blend of travel, battles, invention, and new creature encounters. Its ensemble gives the adventure a broad appeal, balancing Ash and Pikachu’s competitive drive with Serena’s aspirations and Clemont and Bonnie’s lively family dynamic.
Across 93 episodes, the series offers an easygoing mix of action, comedy, friendship, and fantasy, with recurring battles and Pokémon partnerships providing a clear rhythm for the journey. It is especially approachable for younger viewers and newcomers who want a dubbed, character-focused adventure, while returning fans can enjoy another self-contained stage in Ash’s travels.
Synopsis
Ash and Pikachu arrive in the Kalos region to meet new Pokémon and continue Ash's quest to become the very best. In Lumiose City, they encounter Clemont, the city's Gym Leader and a gifted inventor, along with his younger sister Bonnie. Their meeting draws them into a dangerous incident and begins a new journey across Kalos.
Serena, an aspiring Pokémon Performer who remembers Ash from childhood, also sets out to join him. Together, the group travels through the region, builds bonds with Pokémon and one another, and faces the challenges of Gym battles on the road toward the Kalos Pokémon League. Their progress is repeatedly complicated by the schemes of Team Rocket.

Production Background
Pokémon the Series: XY is a television anime based on the Pokémon video game property. It is the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime and the first season to carry the XY title, with the Japanese title Pocket Monsters: XY.
The series began airing in Japan on TV Tokyo on October 17, 2013, and completed its Japanese broadcast on October 30, 2014. In the United States, it aired on Cartoon Network from January 18 through December 20, 2014, following a preview of its first two episodes on October 19, 2013.
Franchise Context
Pokémon the Series: XY is a continuation of the long-running Pokémon television anime and the first season in the Pokémon the Series: XY sub-series. It is a TV anime rather than a film or manga adaptation, with its setting and characters drawing from the Pokémon video-game material. The entry began airing in 2013 and is a completed 93-episode season.
Within the wider Pokémon anime, this season follows Ash and Pikachu into the Kalos region and introduces a new traveling group centered on Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie. Its regional journey leads Ash toward the Kalos Pokémon League while the familiar Team Rocket conflict remains part of the ongoing series framework. As the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, it functions as a new regional chapter rather than a remake or alternate version of an earlier season. Its direct continuation is Pokémon the Series: XYZ, while this page covers the XY season itself.
