Synopsis
Tokyo Ghoul is a dark fantasy saga set in a world where humans unknowingly coexist with ghouls—predatory beings who can pass for human but must consume human flesh to survive. The story follows Ken Kaneki, a shy, book-loving student whose life changes after a fateful encounter leaves him transformed into a half-ghoul. Caught between two societies, he must navigate hunger, identity, and the brutal conflict between humans and ghouls while finding uneasy allies in Tokyo's hidden ghoul districts.
As the franchise expands, Tokyo Ghoul:re continues the narrative with new perspectives and escalating tensions, while spin-off manga, novels, and OVAs such as Tokyo Ghoul: Jack, Tokyo Ghoul: Pinto, and Tokyo Ghoul: Days explore earlier eras and side characters. The anime adaptations, beginning in 2014 and followed by √A and :re, bring the series' psychological horror and action to a wider audience. Across its various forms, the series remains focused on Kaneki's struggle to hold onto his humanity amid cycles of violence, revenge, and fragile hope.
