Synopsis
Hitomi Kanzaki is a Japanese high-school student and track runner whose ordinary life is interrupted when a vision and a mysterious young man pull her to Gaea, a world of floating kingdoms, ancient secrets, and dragon-powered mecha called Guymelefs. There she meets Van Fanel, the young king of Fanelia, and becomes entangled in a war against the Zaibach Empire, whose ambitions threaten Gaea. As Hitomi navigates politics, battles, and her own prophetic visions, she forms bonds with Van and the crew of the airship Crusade, while questions about fate, war, and where she truly belongs come to the fore. The story blends adventure, romance, and mecha action as its heroine grows from bystander to someone whose choices matter. The franchise expands beyond the television series through manga and novel versions, a comic anthology, and the alternate film reimagining Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaea, each offering different angles on the same world and characters while keeping Hitomi's journey at the center.
