Overview
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a multimedia franchise represented in Volluble by 21 connected works across 6 media categories. This hub organizes the franchise by release chronology and gives newcomers a clear starting point.
Synopsis
In a near-future Japan shaped by a global catastrophe, teenager Shinji Ikari is summoned to Tokyo-3 by his estranged father, Gendo. He is pressed into piloting Evangelion Unit-01, a biomechanical fighting machine, against the Angels—enigmatic beings that threaten humanity. He fights alongside Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley Soryu under the secretive organization NERV.
The story blends giant-robot action with intense psychological and philosophical drama. Shinji and his fellow pilots confront trauma, loneliness, identity, and their need for others, while NERV's hidden agendas and shadowy forces widen the conflict from city battles to the fate of humanity itself.
Across the franchise, the original television series and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's manga are expanded by films such as The End of Evangelion and the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy, which conclude, retell, and reimagine the events. Lighter spinoffs like Petit Eva and alternate-continuity manga explore school comedy and different relationships, showing how Evangelion moves between apocalyptic drama and playful reinvention.
